How
tourists are killing off New Zealand's glaciers.
The
Franz and Fox Glaciers in New Zealand have proven a well-liked draw card for
tourists, who have included it on their bucket list of things to try to to and
tourist operators are quick to require advantage of the chance for years by
offering hikes up the glaciers; however global climate change has seen the
rapid decline within the glaciers in recent years that it's not possible to
require a hike up the mountains to ascertain them so tourists are being haunted
to ascertain them by helicopter and tourism could also be responsible if the
statistics are to be believed.
There
is little question there's a correlation between the increased number of
tourists and therefore the melting glaciers.
Since
2008 there has been an explosive growth in New Zealand tourism; one among the
foremost popular items on their bucket list is to go to the glaciers. Is any
coincidence that it's also during this tourism growth phase that the glaciers
have receded at its fastest rate.
New
Zealand is thus far faraway from the remainder of the planet aside from Oceania
that the bulk of tourists to the country are leaving an enormous carbon
footprint which has an impact on the glaciers. In what must be the last word
insult, tourists are haunted to the glaciers in helicopter.
If
only the glaciers had a voice what would they be saying?
Humans
flying up to the glaciers for a better view is not any different to strangers
jumping on someone's deathbed.
The
government encourages these activities which are hastening the demise of the
glaciers.
Why?
Here
is that the reason. it's due to the products and services tax which they
receive from tourists. It adds up to a fortune.
Tourists
travel from far -lung places of the world to holiday in New Zealand leaving a
carbon trail within the process.
But,
the New Zealand government will turn a blind eye to the carbon footprint left
by foreigners yet point the finger at the mining and farming industries which
are the backbone of latest Zealand's economy for over 100 years.
What
you'll do?
You
can help the earth by choosing where to require your holidays and to believe
what you're spending your money on. it's important in touch in mind that
although there's a move faraway from fossil fuels, many countries who are
moving towards so-called green energy are still happy to import goods from
countries which are heavy polluters. this is often because these same countries
provide an enormous marketplace for their own produce.
